Frequently Asked Questions

Why do your hours change?
We are a 100% volunteer organization, and sometimes work, family and other commitments cause us to shift hours.  We keep our online calendar as up to date as possible! We are continually evaluating our hours and responding to the needs of our shoppers.  We try hard to be flexible in meeting people by appointment. Please do not leave donations at the Covenant Church Office, outside the Clothing Center, or when volunteers are not present.

Do I have to live in Stoughton to visit?
No, there is no residency requirement. Everyone is welcome.

Why can’t you take clothing that is ripped, stained, or missing buttons?
We want to ensure we’re giving our customers high-quality clothing and maximize the efforts of volunteers. We process hundreds of items every month – and want to get donations onto the Clothing Center floor as quickly as possible.

Why are you only taking in-season clothing?
In-season clothing helps ensure we get the right clothes to our “shoppers” when they need them most. We also have limited storage space to store clothes that are out of season.

How often can people visit the Clothing Center?
People are welcome to come as often as they need/would like to!  We ask that people take clothing for their personal use and not to resell. We like to help as many people as possible, so at times we may limit the type or number of items per visit. Please take what you need for yourself and your family.  Leave clothing for others to enjoy.

Is everyone welcome at the Clothing Center?
Yes, all are welcome to come to Clothing Center! We also share information about other community resources.  EVERYONE is welcome. Everything is free. No identification or referral is needed. To make sure we have enough for everyone, we prefer you to use the grocery bags we provide. We strongly discourage oversized bags and garbage bags because it is easy to “over shop” and deplete our inventory. In those instances we may ask you to limit your selection to fewer items.

How can I/we help?
We rely heavily on volunteers and donors to help us fulfill our mission. We are a community-powered organization and can only do our work with the generous support of people like you. Please complete the contact form if you are interested in volunteering. Volunteers sort donations, hang clothing and greet customers. Ideally, volunteers work 2- or 4-hour shifts on set days of the month.  We hold a short orientation, and typically pair new volunteers with experienced volunteers until they feel comfortable.
